I'm not a Proverbs 31 woman and that's okay

Whoa! It feels good just writing that. I've been feeling pretty inadequate lately and today just pushed me over the hypothetical ledge.

This month has felt never ending and way too busy. Mostly because I overcommitted and made things priorities that should have just been options. Like most of us, I wanted Christmas to be perfect this year and for the most part it was but I'm not sure it was worth the added stress for me or my family. In fact, I know it wasn't.

This is so hard for me to admit. I am a typical Type A personality and not someone who enjoys making mistakes. {not that anyone really does but you know what I mean}

Replaying today's events brought me back to leaning on Jesus, the only one that can truly bring my spirit rest. It also leaves me kicking myself for not turning to Him sooner which starts a vicious cycle of self deprecation.

Christmas Jammies

We've made it to the week of Christmas and I am so excited. I can't wait to take some time off with my sweet little family. I've been meaning to share some of the beautiful images my friend Lacy took for our Christmas cards this year but just hadn't gotten around to it. Luckily, I came across The Fancy Ashley's Holly Jolly PJ Party and decided to link up.

I had grand plans of tutus and fringe booties for this year's Christmas card which I talked about here. The more I thought about the more I changed my mind...typical for me. I finally decided to go with matching Christmas Jammies and I LOVE the way everything turned out.

My fabulous friend Daphne and I teamed up and put this set up together and we shot out at our local Christmas tree farm, Holiday Acres. Winter has been nonexistent in Houston this year but of course on the day we took pictures the high was in the 40's. I know, I know, not terribly cold compared to other parts of the world and country but we live in South Texas and 'round here that's downright frigid.  Needless to say, the shoot was a little challenging for our toddlers but we got through it and Lacy's work turned out amazing! Thank you again sweet friend!

Amelia's adorable headband is from Willow Crowns ,her jammies are from Carter's and ours are from Hannah Anderson.
 Amelia was pretty much over it at this point. I brought along along everything I could think of to keep her happy during the shoot but as you can see I wasn't very successful.

 We kept trying to keep her warm and our photographer was oh so patient with us.

Everyone asked me how in the world I got my husband to wear long johns for our pictures. The simple truth is that he's a great sport and I don't think there is much he wouldn't do for Amelia and I.

 Here is our Christmas card, I just love the way it turned out. Merry Christmas, everyone!

And just for fun here are some pictures I snapped this morning before sending my sweet girl to school for the last day before Christmas break.

Holiday Baking: The Pioneer Woman Cinnamon Rolls

I love to bake but I find every excuse not to throughout the year. No time, watching what I eat, no one will eat it, are just a few of my excuses. Sound familiar? When the holidays come around I throw all of that out the window and start finding excuses to bake.

I've had my eye on The Pioneer Woman's cinnamon roll recipe for a few years and decided it would make the perfect small gift for close friends and Amelia's teachers at school. Who doesn't love cinnamon rolls, right?

I picked up the supplies for two batches on Saturday night. {believe or not I still had to send my husband to the store the next morning for more butter and powdered sugar}
I made the dough that night and left it covered in the fridge to roll and bake first thing in the morning.
This part is pretty simple but time consuming because between each of the 3 steps you have to let it sit for about an hour. Sunday morning I started at 5am with Christmas lights and music to set the mood.
First, I preheated the oven and left some butter on the stove to start the melting process and then I started rolling out the dough.
Yum! Notice all that butter on the stove! Next, roll that dough, cut it and place in your butter lined pans. {I know you wouldn't expect any less butter from The Pioneer Woman}
You may have a little cinnamon/sugar/butter ooze but it's okay, embrace it ;)
I threw these bad boys in the oven and got started on the icing. Her recipe for maple icing calls for a 1/4 cup brewed coffee. It's kind of different but I went with it because, I mean, she clearly knows what she's doing.
Next time I would make sure I had some lighter coffee to use instead of the dark roast that I had on hand or I might just use an 1/8 of cup of a dark roast. I liked the flavor though and couldn't really taste the coffee.

Amelia was up at this point and jumped in to help mommy roll out the rest of the dough.
I really dress up while baking as you can see.
Here is one of the finished products. I was able to make 19 pans from the two batches and believe it or not I may have to do another batch because I still didn't make enough for everyone on my list!
I'm actually looking forward to it though because it was such an easy recipe and I definitely want to make some for my parents when they come in town next week.

For some legit instructions head on over here and let the pro show you how it's really done. What do you bake for your family and friends during the holidays? I'm adding this one as a Christmas tradition for our family.

2014 Men's Holiday Gift Guide

Everyone says women are hard to shop for but I ALWAYS have a hard time figuring out what to get the men on my list. Here are some of my ideas for this year. {This post contains affiliate links, all support is appreciated}

ONE
The Dollar Shave Club is a no brainer! It is so easy and affordable. I added on the shea butter and aftershave with his first order because A) His skin needs it {love you babe, we all need help} B) It ups my gift up a little bit from just being a razor. I'm hoping he really likes it.
TWO
New tennis shoes are basically a Christmas tradition in our house and I like the color combo on these ASICS Men's Running Shoes
THREE
Some of my besties told me about this one, the Chillsner Beer Chiller. I can't believe I've never heard of it. This is right up my husband and dad's alley!
FOUR
Workout gear is up next on the list. I don't know about y'all but my guy is hard on his workout clothes so Christmas is always a good time to replenish his supply. He is going to love this Under Armour Flag Logo Shirt, it's perfect for the Veteran in your life or any a patriotic man on your list for that matter!

FIVE
You can't go wrong with a snazzy watch. I really like this Fossil Men's Watch - Black and I grabbed it for my dad and husband.

What are you buying the men on your list this year?

2014 Holiday Gift Guide: For the Ladies

Alright this one goes out to the fellas who are still stumped on what to get their lady friend. Every woman is different but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this list will at least point you in the right direction. When in doubt {for the most part} you can't go wrong with something from one of these stores, Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, Tory Burch. Some of my other favorites are, Sephora, Bauble Bar, J Crew and Pottery Barn. {Don't forget the stocking stuffers, starbucks gift cards, personalized or fun tumblers and spa gift cards are a few examples} The following post includes affiliate links.

ONE
This one is a no brainer! I get tons of compliments on it every time I wear it. If this amazon link doesn't have the color you fancy Kendra Scott "Starstruck" Elisa Platinum Drusy Pendant Necklace Kendra Scott's website has several different options. Platinum Drusy is my favorite and the one I have but I'm also loving the Bronze Drusy. If this necklace is on the low end of your budget these matching earrings are the perfect add on Kendra Scott Platinum Drusy Stud Earrings.

TWO
A beauty box subscription {or any other subscription you may come across} I personally recommend Birchbox because I've heard nothing but good things about it and several of my friends of recommended it to me.  As a matter of fact I actually signed myself up for it this morning as a gift from my husband. l will have to remember to tell him what he got me. Haha! I tend to be horrible to shop for because I can never wait for anyone to buy me what I want. But back to the birchbox, I mean what girl do you know that wouldn't be thrilled to get one of these every month?!?
THREE
I'm loving this Smashbox Palette and I'm also a huge fan of the Urban Decay Naked palettes. I'm currently eyeing this one from Sephora. Palettes are perfect for the busy girl who needs something portable and easy. They are a go to for me with my makeup routine each morning! While you're picking up makeup don't miss out on this Beautyblender & Cleanser Kit it is my favorite makeup applicator EVER and I love the finish it gives on my foundation every time. {I also love how much foundation I save by applying it with this blender}
FOUR
SUNNIES!! I am obsessing over these fancy Marc Jacobs Sunglasses but the more practical side of me is loving these in black and ombre.
 FIVE
Running shoes. If you're not a believer in tennis shoes specifically for running I highly suggest you visit your local retailer and get fitted for a pair. Great running shoes has improved my running experience 100%. These Brooks Women's Running Shoes are some of my favorite and I'm actually in need of a new pair just in time for Christmas!

GUYS...in the end don't make it too hard. Put a little thought into it, ask her friends and family for help, look at her pinterest account and go from there. You can also take a look at my fall wish list here for a few more ideas. In the end, it really is the thought that counts. Ladies, help these guys out and share what's on your wish list below!
